Dedicated to the memory of Carole Barker

This site is a tribute to Carole Barker, who was born in Sheffield on December 19, 1955. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

Carole Barker (nee Hague) was born in Sheffield in 1955, where she lived for the rest of her life. After leaving school she worked at a cutlery factory. She met her husband Glynn through mutual friends and they were married in 1981, subsequently having three children. In later life Carole was very close to her three grandchildren who were very important to her. She was widowed in 2013.

Carole had a lifelong love of music and radio, and enjoyed live performances. As a young woman she particularly enjoyed watching live wrestling, and she was also a football fan. Carole loved nature and was fond of dogs in particular. She enjoyed being outdoors, and especially liked to visit places on the coast and in the Peak District.

In the last few years of her life she was affected by a rare neurological condition (PSP) and COPD, which caused severe disability, eventually leading to her moving into residential and nursing care. She showed great courage and determination in facing her illness. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and liked to go out and about as much as possible. She passed away peacefully on 3rd November 2019. She was always hopeful that a cure would be found for PSP and was supported by the staff at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, which is why we have chosen to support the PSPA and hospital charities, in the hopes of helping other people who face this cruel and devastating condition.

Carole was compassionate, loving and cared deeply for her family. She is loved and will be remembered as a kind and caring person with a mischievous sense of humour and a bright smile.
